CLIMBING No.73, Jul-Aug 1982
Once the province of a few daredevil extremists, the sport of climbing — the scaling of sheer, exposed faces of rock, snow, and ice — has achieved rapid growth in a very short time. Widely circulated periodicals devoted to the sport have emerged only recently. The best of these differ mainly in emphasis and style.
A typical issue of Climbing contains half a dozen feature articles — adventure travel, profiles, history, fiction — and roughly two dozen departments: fitness and training, reviews of books and equipment, medical information, events, competition results, and classifieds.
