Peterson’s guides run a close second to the Golden Guide but, except for his pointer technique, most important information is stashed on some other page than the one you’re on. Migration dates and localities are difficult unless you can instantaneously conjure the map and seasons of North America. Peterson’s still surpasses the new Audubon Society bird field guides.
