Easily the most esthetic of the “stove books,” this friendly look at the phenomenon ranges through history to the present, all illustrated with Mr. Adkins’ incomparable drawings. There’s lots of good advice too, explained so you’ll have some idea of why you’re expected to do things a certain way. You can tell he’s done more than read catalogs. My favorite chapter is on how stoves are made.
